We’ll Take a Cup o’ Kindness Yet

And surely you will buy your cup
And surely I’ll buy mine
And we’ll take a cup o’kindness yet
For auld lang syne…

As we leap into a new decade, we all need a powerful resolution. In these uncertain and often hostile times, we could all do with a cup o’ kindness. At RL Leaders, we resolve to do our part.

We have always believed that listening with kindness, is a key to solving difficult problems. Our method depends on fusing diverse perspectives and to make that work, you have to listen to others.

We remain convinced that our problems are becoming increasingly complex and as our frustration with them grows, so does our volume. We know that the best way to solve a problem is not to assemble people with like minds but with like purpose—not with one mind but with one heart.

This last year, our own John Rogers told how this kind of thinking can change the world in his beautiful book, The Renaissance Campaign. We recommend you read it and buy all your friends a copy! As he writes,

The truth in all of this is that no matter how big or small your challenges, there are ways to manage the disruptions of our world, but we need tools to do so—tools I’ve discovered through failure, through success, and, of all places, in fifteenth-century Italy….

We’re not in the midst of a Renaissance. We’re not in our own version of the Middle Ages either. But we could slip into either one. How we proceed as a society will partially depend on how we evolve. There isn’t time for limited thinking. We must be holistic and thought full, fostering a world that deals in creativity and civility, rather than narrow-mindedness and belligerence. The more holistic our thinking, the more we’ll create, the more problems we’ll solve, and the more we’ll shape a world worthy of future generations.

We’ve learned that the best way to get work done is to work together. In the past year, we’ve worked with many of you on difficult problems and your solutions are already making our world a better and safer place. We’ll ask for your help in the coming year as we have already committed to take on a slate of important challenges in the coming months.

But for now, we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet for Auld Lang Syne…and for you. Happy New Year!
